in the middle: monument to the destroyer Steregushchy. Kirovsky Prospect.
This memorial to the destroyer Steregushchy (artist K. V. Ezenberg) was erected in 1911 in the park adjoining the then Kamennoostrovsky Prospect. It was dedicated to the heroic deed of two sailors of the destroyer Steregushchy during the RussoJapanese war. Surrounded by the enemy warships, the two Russian seamen who remained alive preferred death to dishonorable surrender. Descending into the hold, they scuttled the ship and perished together with it.
