The building was designed by architect K. A. Tone and built in 1851 by the time the construction of the St. Petersburg — Moscow railway, the first in Russia, was completed In 1951 the building was re-modeled by architect V. I. Kuznetsov in consequence of the increased number of passengers.
From the Moscow Terminal long-distance trains leave for Moscow, Novorossiysk, Simferopol, Sukhumi, Sochi (with through coache to Tbilisi, Batumi and Tskhaltubo), Kislovodsk Murmansk, Kotlas (with a through coach to Vorkuta), Cherepovets, Vologda, Rzhev.
